MANHEIM, Pa. - McDaniel College men's wrestling seniors Xavier Howard and Val Pryor were recently selected as Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Howard received his second consecutive honor while Pryor earned his first.
To earn NWCA Scholar All-American honors, a student-athletes must meet place in top eight at the regional championship OR wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66 percent AND have a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA) over the last two semesters OR have a 3.2 cumulative GPA of 3.2.
A Kinesiology major with a minor in sports coaching, Howard finished sixth at the NCAA Region 3 Championships and has a 3.388 GPA. He posted a 27-7 record at 157 pounds this season, winning his second-straight Centennial Conference championship and finishing sixth at the NCAA Region 3 Championships.
Howard finished his career ranked fifth in program history with 95 wins. He was also named the 2024 Centennial Conference Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A Kinesiology major with a minor in Athletic Training, Pryor finished fourth at the regional championships and posted a 3.367 GPA over the last two semesters. He posted a career-high 23 wins this season at 197 pounds, winning his first Centennial Conference championship and finishing eighth at the NCAA Region 3 Championships.
Pryor finished his career with 55 wins.
