LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Sophia Leone broke the school record in the pole vault to lead the McDaniel College women's track & field team on the first day of the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Green Terror sit in ninth place with nine points after day one. Johns Hopkins is leading the way with 128.5 points.
Leone crushed her own program record to earn the bronze medal with a mark of 3.32m (10' 10.75"). Freshman Tara Hornung placed 15th, bettering her seventh all-time mark at 2.72m (8' 11") while junior Summer James and junior Kate Principio each had a mark of 2.27m (7' 5.25").
Freshman Gabby DeMarco placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.24m (33' 7.25")
The distance medley relay of junior Anna Kale, sophomore Kaitlyn Bard, junior Piper Nagaraj, and sophomore Maya Colavito placed eighth in 14:34.98.
Junior Anna Rando placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.89 seconds.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Rando, Hornung, Nagaraj, and freshman Nakayla Ross placed ninth wth a time of 1:57.05.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Colavito, Bard, Kale, and Nagaraj placed 10th in 11:36.09.
Junior Ameerah Johnson placed 11th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.21m (40' 0.75"). Principio placed 16th with a throw of 10.05m (32' 11.75").
Ross placed 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.28 seconds.
McDaniel concludes competition at the conference meet on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall.
