ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Seniors
Romeo Tsai and
Thomas Monn each won individual titles to lead the No. 22-ranked McDaniel College men's wrestling team at the Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown inside the Bowers Center on Saturday.
The Green Terror had six place winners and finished fourth out of 10 teams with 135 points. The host Blue Jays took first place with 181.5 points.
Tsai won the title at 125 pounds, posting a 4-0 record with a tech fall and three decisions. He began his day with a 16-0 tech fall in just 2:15 over Elizabethtown's Hunter Pettorossi before back-to-back five-point decisions in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
In the finals, Tsai fell behind 4-0 against Deven Jackson of Elizabethtown before scoring the final five points, including the last on an escape to begin the final period.
The victory marked the first individual title in 11 career regular season tournaments for Tsai who finished second at the Messiah Invitational earlier this year.
Ranked second nationally and first in region 3 at 149 pounds, Monn went 5-0 with four falls and one tech fall to earn his ninth career tournament title and third at the Blue Jay Classic. He won titles in 2022, 2024, and 2025 and finished second in 2023.
Monn began his day with three consecutive falls, all in under two minutes, before posting a 19-4 tech fall over Giorgio Difalco of Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins. Monn then secured his 17th win in 17 matches this season with a fall in 1:22 over Freddy Pimental of Johns Hopkins.
Monn now has 119 career wins, seven shy of the program record held byÂ
Brock Glotfelty '11. Monn is currently 119-11 with 52 falls, eight shy of the record held by Glotfelty and Charlie Conaway '00.
First-year
Andrew Yuen and junior
Alex Taylor each had runner-up finishes at 133 and 184 pounds, respectively. Yuen went 3-1 with a fall and two tech falls. He began with three consecutive wins before falling to Corey Cope of Elizabethtown in the final. Cope is currently ranked fifth in region 3.
Taylor was 2-1 with a tech fall and a decision. He advanced to the final with back-to-back wins, but fell to the nation's top-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds in Elizabethtown's Ganon Smith.
Seniors
Andre Allen and
Kaden Bryan each posted third-place finishes with three wins each. Allen went 3-1 at 157 pounds with two tech falls. He began the day with back-to-back wins before falling to Trent Mahoney of Albright in the semifinals. Mahoney is ranked eighth nationally and first in region 3. Allen finished third after a medical forfeit against Cortland's Colton Havens who is ranked sixth in region 3.
Bryan went 3-1 at heavyweight, totally all three wins by fall, including two in under one minute. He began the day with a fall over Michael Troupe of Albright in just 42 seconds before pinning Trevor Gitski of Wilkes in 59 seconds. In the semifinals, Bryan fell to Scotty Edwards of Muskingum who is ranked fifth in region 4 before rebounding to record a fall in 4:14 over conference rival Jake Pomykata of Johns Hopkins.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, Dec. 13 at home in a tri-meet with Messiah and Shenandoah beginning at 12:30 p.m.
