LEXINGTON, Va. - Freshman
William Conley finished second at 133 pounds to lead the McDaniel College men's wrestling team at the Jim Crytzer Invitational hosted by Washington and Lee on Saturday.
The Green Terror placed eighth out of 11 teams with 67 points. Roanoke won the team title with 181Â points, edging second-place Ohio Northern who had 174.5 points.
Conley totaled 15 points, posting a 2-1 record while advancing to the championship match at 133 pounds. After beginning his day wth a bye, Conley recorded a fall over Daniel Verscharen of Washington & Jefferson in 2:24. He then posted an 8-6 decision over Randolph's Zakariya Gurban before falling to Roanoke's Elijah Smoot in the title bout.
Conley was one of four place winners for McDaniel. Junior
Andre Allen also totaled 15 points to finish fourth at 149 pounds, freshman
Brady Wilt totaled 12.5 points to finish fourth at 197 pounds and junior
Kenneth Moore scored 11.5 points to placed fifth at 165 pounds.
Allen had a 5-1 record, advancing to the third-place match before conceding to Hunter Ballantine of Shenandoah. Three of Allen's wins came by tech fall while two came by decision, including a 5-1 win over teammate, senior
Joe McKneely, in the consolation round. His final victory came by an 11-6 decision in the consolation semifinals against Pahris Petalas of Marymount (VA).
Wilt had a 3-2 record, advancing to the third-place match before falling to Roanoke's Wyatt Sage who is ranked 10th nationally and first in Region 4. After starting his day with a loss and bye, Wilt reeled off three-consecutive wins, including one by tech fall over Britton Sorenson of Southern Virginia in the consolation semifinals, 25-9.
Moore posted a 3-2 record as well, defeating Shenandoah's Jalen Cornelius in the fifth place match. He also recorded a 24-9 tech fall over Noah James of Southern Virginia and a 20-11 major decision over Nicholas Menjivar of Greensboro.
McKneely had five points for the Green Terror, posting a 2-2 record at 149 pounds while sophomore
Gannon Brooks totaled 4.5 points at 184 points, also posting a 2-2 record with a tech fall over Southern Virginia's Lincoln Trapp, 17-2.
Freshman
Cody Johnson also had two wins with a tech fall at 125 pounds.
McDaniel returns to action next weekend at the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming.
