WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College women's tennis team won its first match of the spring season on Wednesday, posting a 6-3 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on the Warfield Tennis Courts.
The Green Terror (2-9) won two of three doubles matches and sealed the win when freshman Emma Janisch won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Senior Liz Fyfe and junior Rachel Smith began the day with an 8-1 wini at No. 1 doubles before the Gators tied the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Janisch and senior Natalie Newman gave McDaniel the lead after edging out an 8-7 win at No. 3 doubles with a 10-7 win in a tiebreaker.
Fyfe claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles before Smith followed with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. Leading 4-1, Janisch secured the match after not dropping a game at No. 6 singles.
Senior Claire Hopkins claimed the fifth point for the Green Terror with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
McDaniel returns to action on Friday, hosting York (PA) beginning at 4 p.m.
