Xavier Howard and senior
Jaedyn Harris each won their respective weight classes at the 2024 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by RIT Saturday.
The Green Terror finished fourth as a team with 88.5 points. TCNJ finished first with 151.0 points while Ithaca finished third with 138.5 points and Elizabethtown came in third with 115.5 points.
As a result of their individual titles, Howard and Harris qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin March 15-16. Both will be making their first-ever appearance at the national championship meet.
Howard was named Outstanding Wrestler after totaling four wins at 157 pounds. Ranked third in the Mideast Region, he posted a 7-2 decision over Max Yahre of Oneonta State in the semifinals before upsetting top-ranked Wenchard Pierre-Louis of Ithaca in the championship with a fall in 4:48.
Howard also recorded a fall in 6:04 against sixth-ranked Mark Bush of RIT on Friday.
Harris posted a perfect 5-0 record at 197 pounds. The region's top-ranked wrestler who is also at No. 10 in Division III, won by decision over Ithaca's Ryan Galka, 8-6, before securing the title following a a forfeit by Keevon Berry of Centenary in the championship. Berry is ranked second in the region.
After earning All-America honors a year ago, sophomore
Thomas Monn was looking to make his second-straight trip to the national championships, but fell to a pair of top-5 regionally ranked wrestlers in the semifinals and third-place match.
Monn was pinned for just the second time in 74 career matches in the semifinals against fifth-ranked Michael Conklin of TCNJ who prevailed in 4:59. After a 2-1 decision over Cortland State's Christian Paredes in the consolation semifinals, Monn was edged by No. 11 Matthew Beyer of Ithaca in the third-place match, 4-2.
In two seasons at McDaniel, Monn has a record of 67-7, including a mark of 31-4 this year.
Sophomore
Ryan Ohler finished fifth at 165 pounds after totaling a 5-2 record. He began the day with a fall in 3:57 over Dennis Slovick of Pitt-Bradford, but fell to Shawn Marchesano of Ursinus for the second time in three matches this season with a spot in the third-place match awaiting the winner.
Ohler won the first meeting between the two, 6-0 on Feb. 3, before Marchesano edged out an 8-5 decision in the Centennial Conference championship match on Feb. 10.
Ohler concluded his first regional championship with a 12-1 major decision over Chris Roybal of Johns Hopkins in the first-ever meeting between the two.
