ABERDEEN, Md. - Senior
Jake Smith went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the McDaniel College baseball team to its second win in as many days with a convincing 10-4 win over Mount Aloysius on Saturday at the Ripken Experience.
The Green Terror (2-0) won the first-ever meeting between the two teams and have posted double-digit run in both games so far this season.
After the Mounties scored a run in the top of the first, a two-run double by Smith put McDaniel in front to stay and was part of a six-run inning in the bottom of the first. Smith came around to score on a balk before freshman
Patrick Kelly hit a three-run home run to left field in his first career at-bat, scoring sophomore
Todd Calhoun and freshman
Shea McKenna.
Freshman
Jake Young made his first career start on the mound for the Green Terror, allowing just one earned run on three hits over 4.0 innings while striking out five to earn his first win.
With McDaniel leading 6-2, senior
Tyler Yohn added an RBI-single in the fifth before an RBI-single by junior
Shane Daly and RBI-double by Smith in the sixth pushed the lead to 9-2. McKenna had an RBI-double in the seventh as the Green Terror reached double digits for the second-straight game.
Graduate student
Ryan Martino pitched three scoreless innings of relief, surrendering just one hit while striking out five before juniors
Matt Speakman and
Conor Henderson came on in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
Mount Aloysius (0-3) scored two in the top of the ninth to provide the final margin.
McDaniel wraps up its three-game visit to the Ripken Experience in Aberdeen on Sunday against Montclair State. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m.
