HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Freshman Sophia Leone set a program record in the pole vault Saturday to lead the McDaniel College women's indoor track & field team at the Larry Sharpe Invitational hosted by Hagerstown Community College.
There were no team scores.
Leone set the program record with a vaultt of 2.96 meters to place second and break a 21-year old school record set by Jen Bruce in 2003 with a mark of 2.95 meters.
Sophomore Sofia DelRosso-Freeman placed fifth with a jump of 2.66 meters while sophomore Kate Principio placed sixth with at 2.06 meters.
Sophomore Ameerah Johnson won shot put with a throw of 10.57 meters to move into fifth in program history. Senior Audrey Perrin finished fourth with a personal best of 7.76 meters and senior Samantha Vogel placed fifth with a throw of 7.31 meters. Senior Mikayla Smith finished sixth at 5.60 meters.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Leone, senior Angel Bidgell, senior Katie Morgan, sophomore Anna Rando finished first with a time of 1:50.83, the 10th-fastest in program history.
Rando won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.74 seconds with sophomore Taylor Pinthiere finishing second in 8.03 seconds and freshman Krista DiPalma fifth in 8.61 seconds.
Graduate student Bailey Mullen won the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:13.36 while freshman Maya Colavito followed in second at 3:40.88.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Morgan, Rando, Mullen and sophomore Piper Nagaraj also finished first in a time of 4:35.24.
Rando placed second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds to move her into 10th in program history.
DiPalma placed second in the 200 with personal-best of 30.37 seconds.
In the 800 meters, Nagaraj placed fourth in 2:36.55, Bidgell placed sixth with a personal-best time of 2:52.30 and junior Emily Paulson was seventh in 3:03.00. Sophomore Abby Warner ran a personal-best of 3:12.84 to finish ninth.
McDaniel heads to Franklin & Marshall for the 2024 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships next Saturday, Feb. 24.
