Xavier Howard finished second at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, as the McDaniel College men's wrestling team finished seventh at the Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown Saturday.
The Green Terror totaled 90.0 points to finish 2.5 ahead of Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins. Wilkes won the team championship with 194.0 points while just 1.5 points separated Penn College, Elizabethtown and Roanoke in second, third and fourth place.
Cortland's Angelo Centrone was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the second year in-a-row.
Monn totaled 23.0 points, posting a 4-1 record at 149 pounds with two falls and one tech fall. He advanced to the championship match for the second-straight year before falling to Centrone for the second year in-a-row. Ranked third in Region 2, Centrone won 6-3 after he posted a 13-5 major decision over Monn in 2023.
Howard also advanced to the championship at 157 pounds for the second-straight year, totaling 21.5 points with a 4-1 record, including three tech falls and one major decision. Ranked sixth nationally, Howard fell to No. 11 Jaryn Hartranft of Wilkes in the title match by just one point, 4-3.
Monn and Howard were two of six place winners for McDaniel. Senior
Val Pryor placed fifth at 197 pounds, posting a 4-1 record and 14.0 team points. After falling to Penn College's Nicholas Woodruff in the quarterfinals, 4-0, he posted three-straight wins, including the last by injury default over Garrett Eddy of Davis & Elkins in the fifth-place match.
Freshman
Cody Johnson placed seventh at 125 pounds, junior
Romeo Tsai was seventh at 133 pounds, and senior
Joe McKneely was seventh at 149 pounds. Johnson went 2-2 and scored 7.5 points while Tsai also went 2-2 and scored 5.5 team points. McKneely went 3-2, recording all three victories by fall.
Freshman
Justin Soriano totaled six points, posting a 3-2 record at 141 pounds with two falls.
The Green Terror returns to action next Saturday when it hosts a tri-match with Messiah and Marymount (VA) beginning at 4 p.m.
