Hubinger Powers McDaniel in Split with Haverford

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel got off to a slow start on the road at Haverford, but turned it on in the second game of the double header to split with the Fords.

Senior Joey Hubinger led the McDaniel (16-13, 4-6 CC) offense with five hits and two RBI's. The Fords (14-16, 4-6 CC) struck early in the second game, but Max Vener and Conor Henderson combined for eight shutout innings and the Green Terror battled back for a 9-7 win.

Haverford 9, McDaniel 6

Tyler Yohn opened the game for McDaniel with a double to right field. Yohn was able to score after a deep single to left center field by Jake Smith. Heading into the bottom of the first inning, senior Ryan Martino got the start on the mound for McDaniel. He struck out the first batter he faced and quickly worked through the the rest of the inning.

After hits by Hunter Kelly and Billy Wheatley, McDaniel loaded the bases when Connor Uhrig was hit by a pitch. Freshman Todd Calhoun came up to bat next and was hit as well scoring Kelly. The Green Terror scored two more runs in the second to lead by four. Martino added another one of his four strikeouts in the bottom half of the inning and put down the other two he faced.

Neither team scored in the third inning, then Haverford got on the board with a three-run homer by Pranav Rane in the fourth.

Smith and Hubinger both singled to start the fifth inning, and eventually scored to put McDaniel back up by three runs.

In the bottom half of the inning, Haverford tied the game up with a home run by Harry Genth followed by a two-run shot from Kyle Beach. The Fords held McDaniel in check the rest of the way, and added three more runs to win 9-6.

McDaniel 9, Haverford 7

Both offenses scored early in the second game of the double header. The Fords scored seven runs over the first two innings, but the Green Terror answered with five runs in the second including RBI singles from Hubinger and Ben Davis. Hubinger currently leads the team with 45 hits on the year.

Trailing by two, Max Vener came out of the bullpen for McDaniel and locked up the Fords offense through the middle of the sixth inning. During that time, Vener faced 19 batters and gave up just five hits.

The Fords were able to hold McDaniel over that time as well, but in the top of the sixth with two men on, senior Austin Goudeaux laced a ball into left field scoring Hubinger. Kelly followed that up with a triple to right field, driving in both runners to take an 8-7 lead.

Haverford put two men on in the bottom half of the sixth inning, but Conor Henderson came into the game and struck out the final two batters of the inning to hold the lead.
Henderson would continue his stellar performance over the last three three innings, and the Green Terror added one more run to win 9-7.

McDaniel returns to action on Tuesday at Johns Hopkins. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
