Davis Powers Baseball to Sixth-Straight Home Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College baseball team scored early and often against New Jersey City as the Green Terror scored the game's first nine runs en route to a 13-5 victory Sunday at Preston Field.

McDaniel (12-6) has won 10 of its last 12 overall and sixth-straight at home.

Freshman Ben Davis went 2-for-3 with two walks and a three-run homer in the bottom of the third. He was one of seven Green Terror record a hit, including one of four to hit for extra bases.

Meanwhile, senior Ryan Martino picked up his third win in four starts this season after scattering seven hits and allowing just two earned runs while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work. He held the Gothic Knights scoreless and allowed just four hits through four innings while striking out four and picking off two as McDaniel took a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, junior Tyler Yohn drove in a run with an RBI-single to left before Davis scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Austin Goudeaux.

After NJCU went 1-2-3 in the top of the second, the Green Terror scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, including two on a two-run triple by senior Joey Hubinger who later scored on an RBI-double by Yohn.

Leading 6-0 in the third, Martino worked his way out of a jam with no outs and a runner on second as he struck out the side, stranding the runner on third.

Davis followed with his third home run of the season and first at home in the bottom of the inning with a three-run shot to right to put McDaniel in front, 9-0.

The Gothic Knights (6-9) would get on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Green Terror responded with four more runs in their half, highlighted by a three-run double to left by senior Hunter Kelly to increase their lead to 13-2.

Junior Remy Mangum entered in the sixth and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out two before turning the ball over to sophomore Conor Henderson in the top of the ninth.

Yohn went 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs while senior Billy Wheatley also had two hits for McDaniel.

McDaniel travels to No. 4 Salisbury on Tuesday. First pitch from Sea Gull Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
