BALTIMORE, Md. - For the second-straight year, the McDaniel College men's basketball team hung tough against a Division I opponent on the road, but fell in an exhibition at Loyola Maryland Sunday night, 58-40.
Following a three-pointer by sophomore
Kevin Connelly, the Green Terror led 33-32 with under 11 minutes remaining in the second half. However, the Greyhounds responded by scoring the game's next 19 points to take a 51-33 lead with less than four minutes to play.
A year ago, McDaniel trailed Mount St. Mary's by just six at halftime before being outscored 29-13 in the second half of a 60-38 loss at Knott Arena.
Tonight's game, which featured three ties and eight lead changes, marked the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 29, 1976.
The Green Terror trailed by just one at halftime, 27-26, after hitting five first-half three-pointers. They wouldn't fare as well in the second, shooting just 17.9 percent from the floor and going 1-for-11 from three-point range.
Loyola made 16-of-25 free throw attempts while grabbing 47 rebounds, including 15 on the offensive end which led to 21 second-chance points. The Greyhounds also took advantage of their size by scoring 26 points in the paint and blocking seven shots.
