McDaniel won four of the six singles matches, including a three-setter at No. 5 to secure a 5-4 win over Juniata.
THE LEADERS
• Miranda Smith (Cambridge, Md./North Dorchester) was the last player on the court with the match tied at 4-all. She took the opening set 6-4 before Shannon Snyder forced a third-set super-tiebreaker with a 6-4 win over her own. Smith prevailed 10-7 in the tiebreak to win the point and clinch the match for the Green Terror.
FOR THE FOES
• Jamie Mahigel went 2-0 to lead the Eagles. She and Maggie Ackley teamed for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles before Mahigel won No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
• Lana Dumnich also went 2-0, teaming with Courtney Eller for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. Demnich then won fourth singles, 6-2, 7-5.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Kassidee Wright (Glen Burnie, Md./Northeast) and Claire Hopkins (Washington, D.C./Lab School of Washington) made it 2-1 after doubles with an 8-5 victory at No. 3.
• Carly Jarkiewicz (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) used a 7-5 win in a first-set tiebreaker to win 7-6 before completing the straight-set win 6-0 at first singles.
• Rachel Smith (Cambridge, Md./North Dorchester) took No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-0 to pull McDaniel within 4-3 in the match.
• When Elizabeth Hough (Gaithersburg, Md./Winston Churchill) won completed her 6-0, 6-2 victory at sixth singles, it set up the match to be decided by the final duo on the court.
