THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel opened its 2021 season with a round of 316 to place third in own rain-shortened McDaniel Spring Invitational at The Bridges. The tournament was originally scheduled to be 36 holes but the second round was rained out, leaving the first-round scores at the final marks.
THE LEADERS
• Ryan McGarry (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) led the Green Terror with a round of 75, placing sixth overall.
• Ryan Bloomer (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls) made his collegiate debut with a top-10 finish, placing 10th with a score of 78.
FOR THE FOES
• Franklin & Marshall won the team title with a tournament-record low round of 294. Gettysburg was second with a score of 311.
• The Diplomats' Mike Gallagher won the individual title with a score of 73, taking medalist honors on the first handicap hole from his teammate, Jas Fuhrer.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Ben Diskin (Charlotte, N.C./Cannon School) was 14th in the field with a round of 81.
• Mike Mandel (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) tied for 16th overall with a score of 82.
• Joe Graceffa (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) rounded out the Green Terror players in the line with a score of 85, finishing 25th.
• Josh Marchand (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Day School) and Evan Rutherford (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) also posted rounds of 82 in their collegiate debuts, playing as individuals. Ryan Niederpruem (Vero Beach, Fla./Saint Edward's) was 19th with a round of 83 as an individual.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Sunday's second round was cancelled due to unplayable course conditions.
• The five teams were the fewest in the 13-year history of this tournament.
• Six of the eight Green Terror golfers were playing their first competitive round for McDaniel.
