THE REST OF THE STORY
Greg Scarborough (Halethorpe, Md./Lansdowne) opened the game with a 3-pointer before Dallas Marshall responded with a triple and sparked a 7-0 run for Washington. The advantage swelled to 17-7 on a Marshall jumper with 10:04 on the clock. Trailing 29-21, Aaron Washington hit a pair of free throws with 2:39 to play in the half and then drained a triple on the next Green Terror possession. An Isaac Ray layup closed the deficit to 29-28 before two Alec Lewis free throws and a Mike Wallace layup in the final 68 seconds kept it a one-point game at the break.
• A Ray layup just 18 seconds into the second half gave McDaniel the lead, sparking the 10-2 run over the first 4:07 of the stanza. Trailing 45-36 on a Wallace 3-pointer, Barry McCormick answered with a trey at the 13:26 mark to spark a 12-2 run over the next 2 minutes, 53 seconds. An Austin Allen three-point play gave Washington the lead once again, 48-47.
• A Washington triple and Josh Sproul (Princess Anne, Md./Washington Academy) tip-in put McDaniel back in front 52-48 with 8:58 on the clock. The teams then traded points with the lead growing as large as 61-56 on a Tony Tavares (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) layup with 2:56 remaining and the Shoremen closing to within one on four occasions over the final 5:29.
• Trailing 63-62, Washington was called for an offensive foul with 29.8 seconds remaining. After a foul in the frontcourt, Aaron Washington hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 23.9 seconds on the clock to push the lead back to three. A driving Tray Wright layup with 17.4 seconds showing once again trimmed the margin to one but Ray hit both ends of his 1-and-1 with 12.5 seconds left. A missed 3-pointer on the other end and rebound with 2.5 seconds left sealed the win.
