Russell wins twice in fall finale

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Rutgers-Camden won two of the three doubles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday.

Lindsay Russell (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) led the Green Terror (0-2) with a pair of victories on the day. She teamed with Maddy Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Russell then won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles.

Abby Banner led the Raptors (2-4), winning twice without dropping a game. She and Lexi Sample took an 8-0 win at third doubles before Banner won 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles. Anna Archut also notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Simmons also added a 2-0 day for McDaniel, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Sample and Laura Penhallegon (Glen Arm, Md./Loch Raven) played the only three-set match of the day. Penhallegon won the first set 6-3 before Sample took the second set 6-4, forcing a third-set supertiebreaker. Sample won that set, 10-7.

McDaniel opens the spring at home against Frostburg on Saturday, Mar. 3. Match time is 1 p.m.
