WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won two of the three doubles and then split singles to defeat Bryn Mawr 5-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis action on Saturday.
Dana Waskiewicz (Abingdon, Md./Harford Technical) won twice for the Green Terror (4-10, 1-7 CC), who also got a pair of wins from Winsome Schauer (Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) on the day.
Melina Koutoutchos led the Owls (1-11, 0-5 CC) with two wins, winning at the top flight in both singles and doubles. She teamed with Kendall Baller for an 8-6 win at first doubles before winning No. 1 singles in three sets. Koutoutchos won the first set 6-1 before Maddy Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) forced a third set with a 6-4 win. Koutoutchos finished the match with a 6-4 win of her own.
Waskiewicz teamed with Nicole Arnold (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles before taking the court at No. 5 singles. Waskiewicz took the opening set 6-2 before Molly MacDougal rallied to force a deciding set with a 6-2 victory of her own. Waskiewicz secured the match for her team with a 6-2 in in the third set.
Schauer and Danielle Cloney (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) teamed for an 8-4 win at second doubles to give the hosts a 2-1 edge going to singles.
Schauer posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at third singles.
Tori Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) rounded out McDaniel winners, taking second singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Eram Haider and Arnold needed three sets to decide sixth singles. Haider took the opening set 6-3 before Arnold won 7-6 to force the deciding set, where Haider prevailed, 6-4.
The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Thursday. Match time is 4 p.m.
