WESTMINSTER, Md. – Swarthmore swept doubles play en route to an 8-1 win over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's tennis opener for both teams on Sunday.
Maddy Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) led the Green Terror (3-4, 0-1 CC) with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
Maria Cuervo led the Garnet (5-2, 1-0 CC), winning at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 count. She also teamed with Alli Wong to win at first doubles, 8-1.
Nicole Arnold (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Rachel Bronkema split the first two sets and needed a super-tiebreaker third set to decide fifth singles. Bronkema won the first set 6-2 before Arnold took the second set, 6-3. Bronkema took the deciding set, 10-4.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Match time is 4 p.m.
