TOWSON, Md. – Goucher won both contested doubles en route to an 8-1 win over McDaniel in non-conference women's tennis action on Tuesday.
Maddy Simmons (Bowie, Md./Bowie) led the Green Terror (0-2) with a straight-set win at first singles. She took the first set 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 7-5, before taking the second set, 6-0.
Kristen Cianci paced the Gophers (2-1) with a pair of wins. She teamed with Alice Goldstein-Plesser for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles before taking No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Laura Penhallegon (Glen Arm, Md./Loch Raven) and Mackenzie Donohue played a three-set match at No. 4 singles. Donohue took the opening set 6-2 before Penhallegon forced a super-tiebreaker third set with a 6-2 victory. Donohue prevailed in the deciding set, 10-5.
McDaniel opens the spring schedule at St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, Mar. 5.
