Box Score HARRISBURG, Pa. – McDaniel scored the final four points of overtime to defeat York (N.Y.) 69-65 at the Penn State-Harrisburg Tipoff Tournament in season-opening men's basketball action on Saturday.
Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) netted 15 points to lead three players in double figures for the Green Terror (1-0), who will face CCNY in Sunday's championship game. CCNY defeated the host Lions, 75-69.
Cyril Reid paced the Cardinals (0-1) with 19 points.
Trailing 63-61, Stewart finished a layup in the final minute of regulation to knot the game. McDaniel had one final chance to win the game in regulation but could not get the shot to go.
Midway through the extra session, Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) converted a layup for a 65-63 advantage.
Two Du'Quan Lawson free throws at the other end evened the game once again but a Stewart layup put the Green Terror in front for good with 2:16 showing.
Stewart iced the game with a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds for the four-point win.
York jumped out to an 18-12 lead through the game's first 8:19 before two free throws each from Timi Tinuoye (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Jack Rauchut (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) around a Rashaan Bailey layup made it a 20-16 game.
An Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) jumper made it a 20-18 game with 8:21 on the clock before Reid pushed the lead back to four.
Two Duane Echols (Jessup, Md./Hammond) free throws and an Anthony Morgan (York, Pa./New Hope Academy Charter) layup evened the game at 22-all with 7:01 showing.
The run extended to eight straight points for a 26-22 lead en route to a 35-29 advantage at the break.
Perry extended the lead to eight early in the second half.
Trailing 41-33, Jaron Williams hit a layup to spark a 9-0 run that put the Cardinals back in front with 13:09 to play.
Two Omar St. John free throws extended the lead as large as 47-43 two minutes later before a Perry layup and Nic Martin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) hit a triple for a 48-47 lead midway through the stanza.
Echols finished with 13 points and four assists while Perry had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Game time on Sunday is 3 p.m.
