YORK, Pa. – Carlos Hernandez (Derwood, Md./Magruder) reset his own hammer throw record to lead McDaniel at the York (Pa.) Twilight Meet in men's outdoor track and field action on Thursday.

Hernandez turned in a throw of 38.43 meters to finish sixth in the event but better his previous best my three feet. He was also fifth in the discus (36.09) and seventh in the shot put (13.13).

Jordan Birden (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) won the high jump for the Green Terror at the non-scoring last-chance meet, clearing 1.78 meters. He was also fourth in the long jump (5.92) but the second collegiate finisher.

Gary Smith was the workhorse at the meet, competing in five events. On the track, he finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.11. He was also second in the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters.

Smith was fifth in his other three field events – the pole vault (3.45), long jump (5.60) and javelin (39.55).

Arthur Williams (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) led the way in the sprints. He was fifth in the 100 with a time of 11.25 seconds before debuting in the 200 with a time of 23.16 to finish seventh.

Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) finished sixth in the 5,000 with a time of 16:33.08 to round out competitors on the track.

Kyle Andrews (Randallstown, Md./Mount St. Joseph's) rounded out the throwers, finishing 10th in both the shot put (10.16 meters) and discus (22.38).

The Green Terror returns to action at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet hosted by Widener on Monday.
