McCormick finishes seventh in pentathlon

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A quartet of McDaniel athletes competed in the pentathlon, led by Jasmine McCormick's (Antioch, Calif./Holy Name) seventh-place finish, at the Multi-Mix Madness hosted by Navy in women's indoor track and field action on Thursday.

The Green Terror also had six athletes compete in open events at the five-team meet that included a trio of Division I programs. The host Midshipmen won the meet with 217 points. McDaniel finished with eight points.

In addition to McCormick's top-eight finish in the 19-person pentathlon, Chloe Allen-Gorman (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) and Jasmine Scott (Derwood, Md./Bullis) finished in scoring position in their individual events.

Allen-Gorman moved into second place on the all-time indoor mile with a time of 5:18.67. She also turned in the seventh-best performance ever behind six of Lindsay Wilson's best times. Wilson competed on Thursday and finished with a time of 5:24.79.

Scott was seventh in the 60 with a time of 8.34 seconds – one of five Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying times in the open events.

Taylor Stillings (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was the only athlete to compete in two open events. She was 16th in the 60 (8.93 seconds) and 30th in the 400 (1:07.41), hitting the CC standard in both events. Stillings cracked the top-10 list with her showing in the 60.

Becky Kaler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) led a trio of Green Terror athletes in the 3,000. She finished 10th in a time of 10:55.34. Amber Slater (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was 17th (11:48.28) while Laura Shinn (Weehawken, N.J./Pennington) was 18th (12:00.85). McDaniel alum Jill Krebs competed as well with a time of 10:45.53.

McCormick finished seventh overall with a score of 2,758 points – the second-best performance in program history. A trio of freshman joined McCormick in the pentathlon and now rank fourth, fifth and sixth all-time. Claire Lawson (McMinnville, Ore./McMinnville) finished 14th with 1,989 points. Alva Ecker (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) was 15th with 1,978 points. Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) was 16th with 1,768 points.

McCormick's top finish in the five-eventer came in the 60-meter hurdles. She opened the night with a third-place finish, running a program-record time of 9.80 seconds (750 points). She was also fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:39.14 (583 points), winning the section with the top eight performers entering the final event.

Lawson won the 800 with a time of 2:31.92 to vault into 14th place after the 669-point effort. Her time ranks ninth on the program's all-time list. She also cleared 1.37 meters in the high jump to break into the top 10.

Ecker's top finish came in the hurdles, where she was 14th with a time of 11.47 seconds – a time which ranks ninth all-time. She was also 14th in the high jump, clearing 1.40 meters to claim ninth on the program's all-time list. The 512 points in that event were her most points in any one event.

Martin's top finish was in the high jump, finishing 13th after she cleared 1.43 meters to rank fifth all-time. That effort earned her 544 points. She also moved into the all-time top 10 in the hurdles with a time of 12.42 seconds.
