McDaniel notches handful of qualifiers in final meet at Widener
CHESTER, Pa. – Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished 11th in the pole vault to lead McDaniel at the Widener Invitational in men's outdoor track and field action on Friday.
The Green Terror had seven different athletes hit Centennial Conference (CC) qualifiers, including three for the first time this season in the team's final event before next weekend's championship meet.
Nichols cleared 3.65 meters in the pole vault and added a 15th-place showing in the 110 hurdles, finishing with a time of 17.30 seconds.
Trevor Crest (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) finished 26th with a personal-best time of 52.55 seconds in the 400 (52.55) and 33rd in the 200 with a time of 23.95.
CJ Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) crossed 24th in the 1,500 (4:08.04) and 27th in the 800 (2:01.56).
Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) was 35th in both the 800 (2:02.98) and 1,500 (4:12.33), hitting the qualifying standard in both events.
Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) turned in a CC-qualifying time of 2:06.93 in the 800.
Eric Spioch (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished 22nd in both hurdle events. He finished the 110 hurdles in a time of 18.81 seconds and hit the qualifier in the 400 with a time of 1:01.13, running the event for the first time.
Chuck Kronmiller (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) placed 14th in the javelin, hurdling a season-best toss of 45.73 meters to round of the qualifying marks on the day.
Carlos Hernandez (Derwood, Md./Magruder) finished 17th in the shot put (11.10) and 37th in the javelin (31.32) while Nichols turned in a throw of 35.46 meters to finish 34th in the javelin.
Rick Gonzalez (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) was 47th in the 400 (55.88 seconds) while Alex Rieser (Washington, D.C./McLean School of Maryland) was 35th in the 100 (12.67) and 51st in the 200 (25.51). Kronmiller placed 34th in the 100 (12.47).
The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championships hosted by Muhlenberg on Apr. 29-May 1.
