McDaniel wins three times at Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, Va. – C.J. Naper (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) won the 1,500 to lead McDaniel on at the Jopson Invitational hosted by Bridgewater in men's outdoor track and field action on Saturday.
Naper recorded one of three individual victories for the Green Terror, finishing with a time of 4:15.87. He was also fourth in the 800 with a Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying time of 2:02.22.
Freshman Eric Klugh (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) won the javelin in his debut, throwing a distance of 46.51 meters to his the conference standard in the event.
Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) rounded out the victors, clearing 3.50 meters in the pole vault. Nichols was also sixth in the discus (29.69m), seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:01.94), ninth in the 110 hurdles (17.38) and ninth in the javelin (35.17m). The two hurdles times are CC qualifiers.
Ken Polk (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) finished fourth in the triple jump, hitting the CC mark with a jump of 11.83 meters. Polk also tied for fifth in the long jump (5.61).
Carlos Hernandez (Derwood, Md./Magruder) rounded out conference qualifiers on the field side, finishing third in the discus with a hurl of 33.24 meters. He was also fourth in the shot put (11.54) and 12th in the javelin (33.45).
Juris Eyler (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Jerome Hill (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) and Trevor Crest (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal) all qualified for the conference meet in the 100. Eyler reached the finals with a time of 11.65 seconds while Hill and Crest were 10th (11.91) and 12th (12.07), respectively.
Rick Gonzalez (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) finished sixth in the 400 hurdles with a CC-qualifying time of 1:01.89.
Eyler and James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) hit the necessary time in the 200, crossing fifth (23.49) and sixth (23.80), respectively.
Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) finished sixth in the 800, reaching the CC mark with a time of 2:03.27.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Green and White Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) on Saturday.
