Fords convert 20 of 30 from free-throw line in 62-50 win

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Bo Friddell netted 20 points to lead Haverford to a 62-50 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Monday.

Marcus Dyson (Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic) reached double figures for the fifth time in the last six games to pace the Green Terror (8-13, 4-10 CC) with 12 points.

Cameron Baker also reached double figures with 16 points for the Fords (8-12, 6-8 CC), who stayed within two games of the fifth and final playoff spot with four games to play.

Trailing 7-5 on a Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) 3-pointer, Baker hit a layup with 15:54 on the clock to spark a 12-2 stretch that gave Haverford a 17-9 advantage 7 minutes, 37 seconds later.

Doug Edelman capped the burst with a pair of free throws for the Fords, who went 11-for-16 from the charity stripe in the first half compared to a 1-for-1 showing from McDaniel.

A Christopher Cowles (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) 3-pointer cut the deficit to 24-22 with 2:57 to play in the half but Haverford tallied four of the half's final six points to take a 28-24 advantage into the locker room.

The teams traded baskets over the first nearly five minutes of the second half before Matthew Palmer extended the lead to six with a layup with 15:00 to play.

Two Woody Butler (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) free throws pulled the Green Terror within four once again before a Friddell free throw and Baker layup stretched the Haverford lead to 37-30.

After Dyson nailed a second-chance jumper in the lane, Friddell canned a triple to match the Fords' largest lead of the game and Ian Goldberg pushed the lead to double figures for the first time with 11:50 on the clock.

The Haverford lead hovered between eight and 10 points until Jarboe hit a 3-pointer with 1:41 to play to cut the deficit to 55-48.

However, a 7-for-8 showing from the Fords in the final 1:27 sealed the win.

Jarboe added 11 points and six rebounds for McDaniel.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
