McDaniel rallies for victory at Dickinson

Jones keys late effort to lift Green Terror to 53-44 win in CC opener

CARLISLE, Pa. - Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) recorded 10 points to lead McDaniel to a 53-44 victory at Dickinson in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday.

Michael McClain (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) and Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) chipped in nine points apiece for the Green Terror (3-2, 1-0 CC), who limited the Red Devils (0-4, 0-1 CC) to just 15 second-half points.

Matt Dolan paced the hosts with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

A Jones jumper with 12:39 to play started a 15-4 stretch over a 4-minute, 15-second span that McClain capped with a circus layup that bounced high off the glass and in. The ensuing free throw stretched the lead to 43-40 with 8:24 on the clock.

Clinging to a 45-42 lead with 2:06 to play, Jones hit a triple just before the shot clock expired to snap a 6-minute, 18-second drought from the floor and extend the lead to six.

A 5-for-6 showing from the stripe in the final 37 seconds sealed the victory for McDaniel, which held Dickinson to one field goal and four points in the final 9:27.

After 4 minutes, 54 seconds had elapsed, Sarris-Grau hit a single free throw to snap an 8-0 start by the Red Devils keyed by four points from Chris Barsanti.

It was 5:28 into the game before Jones found Sarris-Grau on the break for a three-point play.

A Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) 3-pointer closed the deficit to 8-7 and forced a Dickinson timeout with 13:58 remaining.

Just 50 seconds later a Marcus Dyson (Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic) putback gave the Green Terror is first lead.

Two McClain free throws capped a 15-0 Green Terror counter that spanned 4:32.

A Chris Heine 16-footer snapped a six-minute scoreless drought for the Red Devils with 10:05 on the clock, starting an 18-4 stretch.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Dolan and Mike Aron keyed the burst

A Jarboe layup closed the deficit to 26-23 with 3:03 on the clock en route to a 29-25 Dickinson advantage at the intermission.

Neither teamed scored in the second half until a single Douglas Jakiela free throw 2:29 into the stanza and the Red Devils tallied 10 of the half's first 12 points to open up a 36-28 advantage with 13:06 to play.

McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 10 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
