WESTMINSTER, Md. – Miguel Jones (Baltimore,
Md./North County) led four players in double figures with
15 points to lift McDaniel to a 62-51 Centennial Conference (CC)
men's basketball victory over Haverford on Saturday.
With the victory, the Green Terror (11-3, 6-1 CC) extended its
current winning streak to seven games – its longest such
stretch since the squad won a program-record eight straight during
the 1964-65 season – and remained in a tie for first place in
the CC standings.
Brent Anderson led the Fords (5-8, 2-5 CC) with a
game-high 22 points. Sam Permutt finished a
rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine
rebounds.
After a back-and-forth first nine minutes, Josh McKay
(Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) hit the first of two free
throws to knot the game at 8-all with 10:37 on the first-half clock
before Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntington Valley, Md./Lower
Moreland) hit a layup with 8:11 showing to give his team
the lead for good.
A Jones 3-pointer stretched the lead to five before Haverford
clawed to within one twice over the next four minutes of the
half.
Five points from Jones, including his second of three triples,
coupled with a Finch layup accounted for a 7-0 burst that gave the
Green Terror a 22-14 lead with 3:03 to play in the opening
stanza.
A Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon)
3-pointer on a Sarris-Grau kickout just before the shot clock
expired gave the hosts a 25-18 lead entering the locker
room.
The Fords closed to within 34-29 with 14:38 to play in the contest
before Joseph Potucek (Germantown, Md./St. Johns at
Prospect Hall) hit a layup to spark a 9-2 burst to open up
a 12-point advantage with 9:18 showing.
The Green Terror extended the lead to as many as 15 down the
stretch en route to the 11-point win.
Finch netted 13 points for McDaniel while Chad
Arrington (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) and
T.J. Odunlami (Columbia, Md./Atholton) added 11
points apiece. Nine of Odunlami's points came from the
charity stripe. Arrington added seven rebounds and four steals
while Finch dished out four helpers.
McDaniel returns to action at home at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.
