WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore Kevin Henry (Potomac,
Md./Bullis School) exploded for a career-high 29 points,
matching his 2007-08 season-high total of 17 at halftime, to lead
McDaniel to a 100-55 victory over Penn State York in non-conference
men's basketball action on Friday.
The Green Terror (1-0) opened the season with an exclamation point,
reaching triple digits for the first time since notching 108
against Gallaudet on Nov. 21, 2000 and recoding its largest margin
of victory since a 112-66 win over Mary Washington on Dec. 4,
1980.
Eric Hudak led the Lions (0-3) with 19 points
while Cody Correll also reached double figures
with 14.
Henry hit on 11 of his 14 field-goal attempts and went 7-for-8 from
the free-throw line that included seven straight McDaniel points in
the final 1:33 of the first half to turn a 35-26 advantage into a
44-28 lead at the intermission.
Chad Arrington (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown)
finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine
rebounds while Devon Lesniak (Westminster, Md./Winters
Mill) poured in 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including 2
of 3 from behind the arc, in his collegiate debut. Of the 16
players dressed for the game, 13 registered a point and 12 grabbed
a rebound.
After missing on its first five attempts of the game, Arrington
finally got the hosts on the board with a putback at the 18:48
mark.
Three other Green Terror players chipped in buckets to extend that
lead to 8-0 before Dave Buoni put Penn State York
on the board 4:32 into the game.
The lead hovered between six and 12 points before Henry keyed an
18-7 run that spanned the halves to push the lead to 20 for the
first time at 53-33 with 16:21 remaining.
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County)
finished with nine points while Josh McKay (Baltimore,
Md./Eastern Tech) and Louis Sarris-Grau
(Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) chipped in eight
apiece.
As a team, the Green Terror was 42-for-77 from the field, making 40
field goals in a game for the first time since netting 50 against
Mary Washington on Dec. 2, 1991. The 54.5 percent from the floor
was also the squad's best since hitting on 55.6 percent of
its shots last season against Hobart.
McKay, Jones and Henry all dished out four assists – part of
McDaniel's 26-assist outing. It was the first time since 2005
that the Green Terror had no fewer than 20 assists in a
game.
The Green Terror returns to action at St. Mary's (Md.) in the
first round of 2008 Provident Pride of Maryland Tournament on
Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
