Men's Soccer Drops Conference Contest at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. - Johns Hopkins scored three unanswered goals over a 20-minute stretch midway through the second half in a 3-0 win over the McDaniel College men's soccer team Wednesday night at Homewood Field.

The Green Terror (6-2-1, 1-2 CC) have dropped back-to-back conference contests after starting the season unbeaten over its first seven games.

After a scoreless first 53 minutes, the Blue Jays (7-2-1, 3-0 CC) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a penalty kick after a McDaniel foul in the box. It was the first penalty kick goal in two tries for Hopkins and the second allowed in three attempts by the Green Terror this season.

The Blue Jays doubled their lead in the 67th minute when Gabriel Pirayou scored off a double assist from Rohan Aggarwal and Brendan Listzwan. They capped the scoring in the 76th minute on an own goal.

After an evenly played first half in which the two teams combined for 10 shots and four corner kicks, Johns Hopkins held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the second 45 minutes, scoring three goals on seven shots on goal.

First-year Gavin Yartymyk finished with eight saves, one shy of his career, including five in the second half, but allowed multiple goals for just the second time in eight starts this season.

Nine players had at least one shot for the visitors, led by junior Jacob Hicks who had three. McDaniel finished with 11 shots, but had just three on goal.

Following a three-game road trip, the Green Terror play the first of back-to-back home games on Saturday when they host Swarthmore for a 3 p.m. kickoff at the Soccer Complex.
