COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus scored the game's first two goals, including the game-winner on a penalty kick in a 2-1 victory over the McDaniel College men's soccer team on Saturday.
The Green Terror (6-1-1, 1-1 CC) suffered their first loss after allowing more than one goal for just the second time in eight games this season.
In a close game between two evenly matched teams, the Bears held a slight edge in shots, 16-14, while each team had four corner kicks apiece.
Ursinus (4-3-1, 1-1 CC) scored in the 17th minute on its first shot of the game to take an early 1-0 which it would sustain through the first 45 minutes.
The visitors held a slim 6-5 edge in shots it the first half, but managed just one on goal that was saved by the Bears' Josiah Moore. Meanwhile, Ursinus put four of its five shots on frame with three of the last four turned away by first-year
Gavin Yartymyk.
Just three minutes into the second half, the Bears doubled their lead when Matthew McFadden scored on a penalty kick after being fouled inside the box.

Callen Kleinschmidt scored his first career goal in the 57th minute off an assist from senior
Eyuel Reta. It was Reta's first point of the season and first since Sept. 25, 2024 when he had the game's lone goal in a 1-0 win at Gwynedd Mercy.
However, that would be as close as the visitors could get as Ursinus held an 11-8 advantage in shots in the final 45 minutes.
Yartymyk and Moore each finished with four saves as the Bears snapped a four-game losing streak against the Green Terror. It was also the first win in the series for Ursinus at home since Oct. 25, 2014.
McDaniel continues their three-game road trip on Wednesday when it makes the short trip to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Homewood Field.
