WESTMINSTER, Md. - Junior Anna Buyse scored her first goal of the season to lead the McDaniel College field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference win over Wilkes Saturday inside Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (2-4) picked up their second win in the last three games and their first at home this season.
It marked the first meeting between the two teams in Westminster and the first-ever meeting between the two a year ago in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. that was also decided by just one goal, 3-2 in favor of Wilkes.
Buyse scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, only 3:17 after the Colonels tied the game at 1-1. It was Buyse's second career goal and first since Sept. 1, 2024 at home against Washington & Jefferson.
Each team took two shots in the first period with senior Lora Scarangello stopping both attempts by the visitors.
The Green Terror got three shots off in the second quarter, scoring on a penalty stroke by junior Charley Noah for her third goal of the season. All seven of Noah's points this season have come in the last three games. She now has 12 goals and 26 points in 33 career games.
McDaniel outshot Wilkes 6-1 in the third quarter, but the visitors made their only attempt count as Taylor Bower scored off an assist from Maddie Karp to tie the game at 1-1.
Buyse put the Green Terror back in front off an assist from junior Kathryn Morin before McDaniel outshot the Colonels (2-5) by the same margin in the fourth quarter, 6-1. It was the first point of the season for Morin and third of her career.
Noah had a chance to extend the lead on a penalty stroke in the final quarter, but her attempt missed with 5:59 to play.
McDaniel held a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 13-4 margin in penalty corners. Scarangello finished with two saves.
The Green Terror travel to Batten next Saturday, Sept. 26 for a match-up with the Marlins at noon.
