BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Junior
Summer Gregory scored for the second consecutive game as the McDaniel College field hockey team fell on the road at Bridgewater (Va.) on Wednesday, 2-1 at the Jopson Athletic Complex.
The Green Terror (1-4) fell in the first meeting between the two schools since Sept. 11, 2018. The series is now even at three games apiece.
The game marked the third out of five this season for McDaniel that was decided by just one goal.
The Eagles (4-1) scored the game's first goal with 4:47 remaining in the first quarter before Gregory scored her second goal of the season and fifth of her career just 34 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of one.
Bridgewater held a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 5-0 margin in penalty corners in the opening 15 minutes with senior
Lora Scarangello totaling two saves.
Each team recorded one shot in the second quarter before the visitors held a 5-1 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners in the third. However, Thaleia Khader stopped all five shots and the game headed to the final quarter still tied at 1-1.
After a back and forth battle, the Eagles got the game-winning goal when Emily Dickinson scored on a rebound off her own shot that was saved by Scarangello with less than four minutes to play.
Scarangello finished with five saves while Khader had seven, all in the second half.
Bridgewater held a 13-11 edge in shots while McDaniel had the advantage in penalty corners, 7-6.
The Green Terror host a non-conference contest versus Wilkes on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. inside Gill Stadium.
