Five Home Runs Highlight 10th-Straight Win for Baseball

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Graduate student Shane Daly and sophomore Anthony Cerone each hit two home runs and combined for 11 RBIs while senior Brady Goyne hit his first career home run as the McDaniel College baseball team won its 10th consecutive game with a 17-4 win at Wilson on Tuesday.

The Green Terror (16-5) have won 10 games in-a-row for the first time since the 2016 season, when the team rattled off 12 straight victories from March 14th to April 3rd. McDaniel finished 31-10 that season and advanced to the second round of the Centennial Conference Tournament.

The Phoenix (3-8-1) opened the scoring with a three-run first inning before the Green Terror rallied to tie the game in the third. Daly recorded an RBI-ground out for the team's first run of the day, and senior Ben Davis drove in Goyne on a sacrifice fly. Cerone knotted the game at 3-3 with an RBI-single to score junior Shea McKenna

Daly belted a solo home run in the fourth inning for his third homer of the season, giving the visitors a 4-3 lead. An eight-run fifth inning cemented the win for the Green Terror as the team hit two three-run home runs in the inning. Cerone connected on a three-run bomb to right center, scoring sophomore Thomas Mezzullo and McKenna for a 7-3 lead. Daly then drilled his second homer of the day on another three-run blast, scoring Goyne and junior Ethan Haddock to make the score 10-3. McKenna added an RBI-triple to score Davis and Mezzullo rounded out the scoring with an RBI-single.

Goyne then hit his first career home run in the sixth, connecting on a two-run blast to increase the Green Terror lead to 14-3. The Phoenix added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth but McDaniel countered with a three-run seventh to ice the win. Cerone homered for the second time and Goyne scored Haddock on a bases-loaded walk for the game's final 17-4 margin.

The team's five home runs are its highest total in a single game since April 23rd, 2024, when the Green Terror hit four in a game against Washington College. Daly went 2-for-6 from the leadoff spot with five RBIs and two home runs while Cerone had three hits in five at-bats with a team-best six RBIs and two homers. Goyne went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Mezzullo had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate while McKenna and Haddock each had two base hits in the win. The Green Terror have scored 46 combined runs in their last three games, averaging over 15 runs per game.

Senior Tyson Nercessian picked up his second win of the season in relief, striking out two and walking two while allowing only one hit in four scoreless innings. First-year Luke Wood, the reigning Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week, got the start and totaled two strikeouts and three earned runs on four hits.

McDaniel returns to Preston Field tomorrow for its final non-conference home game of the season against Lancaster Bible. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
