VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Led by wins from juniors Sophia Leone and Maya Colavito, the McDaniel College women's outdoor track & field team opened its season at the Betty S. Rogers Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
Leone won the pole vault with a mark of 3.20m while Colavito won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:58.07.
Junior Michaela Carney took second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.05m, moving her into fifth in program history. First-year Allison Kapustka jumped 2.75m to take third and move into seventh in program history. Senior Allie Rolek jumped 2.60m to place fourth.
Senior Kate Principio placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 32.81m.
Sophomore Gabby DeMarco placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.01m while senior Elyssa Greene placed 10th with a jump of 8.86m.
In her McDaniel debut, junior Jess Pronchick placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 29.67m. She also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 9.93m and sixth in javelin with a mark of 21.90m.
Principio placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 27.35m and 13th in the shot put with a throw of 8.07m.
Senior Anna Rando placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.16 seconds. She also placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.19 seconds.
DeMarco placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.00m while Rando placed ninth at 4.52m and Greene place 13th at 4.22m.
First-year Gianna Corrieri placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.15, just ahead of senior Anna Kale in seventh at 2:42.21. Senior Arianna Lowengrub placed 11th in 2:58.90.
First-year Sophie Tressler ran 6:03.03 in the 1,500 meters to place sixth.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, March 28 at the Blue & White Open hosted by Lebanon Valley.
