VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Led by two wins from senior Jack Sears, the McDaniel College men's outdoor track & field team opened the season at the Betty S. Rogers Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
Sears ran a time of 4:08.11 to win the 1,500 meters and a time of 16:05.39 to win the 5,000 meters.
First-year Sam Favazza placed seventh in the 1,500 with a time of 4:29.63 while junior John Hegarty placed sixth in the 5,000 with a time of 17:57.29.
Senior Ethan Bush won the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.75, moving him into ninth in program history. Junior Abhishek Mudireddy placed 11th in 2:03.59.
Graduate student John Geniti won the pole vault with a mark of 3.80m while junior Keiron Wilson placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.30m.
Junior Jamey Travers placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 36.84m. Sophomore Darnell Gilliam placed 14th with a throw of 28.84m and junior Jacob Gibson placed 15th with a throw of 27.89m.
Junior Braylon Johnson placed ninth in the long jump with a jump of 5.93m and Wilson placed 10th at 5.80m.
Johnson placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.32 seconds while sophomore Robert Wood placed 17th in 24.27 seconds. Wood also placed 10th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.96 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Bush, Johnson, Favazza, and Mudireddy placed third in 3:32.87.
Senior Benjamin Bouselli placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:56.70.
Gibson placed eighth in hammer throw with a mark of 32.49m and Gilliam placed 10th with a throw of 28.34m. Gilliam also placed 10th in the shot put with a throw of 10.54m while Gibson placed 12th with a mark of 10.26m. Travers took 13th with a mark of 9.41m.
Senior Luke Stimely placed 12th in the javelin with a mark of 18.80m and Travers was 13th at 18.24m.
McDaniel returns to action next Saturday, March 28 at the Blue & White Open hosted by Lebanon Valley.
