VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Junior
Gabe Wallman made a career-high 20 saves, but Virginia Wesleyan scored eight unanswered goals en route to a 9-2 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team on Wednesday.
The Green Terror (5-4), who were facing the Marlins for the first time since March 3, 2012, concluded their non-conference schedule with their first loss in the last three road games.
Wallman faced a season-high 48 shots, limiting Virginia Wesleyan to a season-low nine goals. It marked the first time in eight games this season that the Marlins have been held to single digits. He totaled 11 of his 20 saves in the second half while facing 26 shots, including 16 on goal.
The last time a goalie had at least 20 saves for McDaniel was April 17, 2024 when Brighton Lorber had 22 in a 12-6 win at Shenandoah.
Led by junior

Alex Salerni, the Green Terror scored two of the game's first three goals to take a 2-1 lead with 5:56 remaining in the first quarter. Salerni netted his team-leading 15th goal of the season while Wilson scored his sixth.
However, Virginia Wesleyan (7-1) clamped down defensively, holding the visitors scoreless for the final 51 minutes while Thomas Skelly totaled 10 of his 14 saves. The Marlins also won 10-of-13 face-offs and held McDaniel without a goal on seven extra-man opportunities, including four in the fourth quarter.
