WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College men's lacrosse team totaled a season-high 56 shots and scored on 2-of-3 extra man opportunities in an 11-5 victory over New England College at Gill Stadium on Sunday.
The Green Terror (3-2) picked up their first home win of the season and second over the Pilgrims in the first meeting between the two teams since March 13, 2010.
Junior
Aidan Skelly and first-year
Alex Salerni each had three points with two goals and one assist to lead the offense. Junior
Cash Stanton also scored twice while first-year
Shane Whalen totaled two goals, one ground ball, and two caused turnovers.
Defensively, sophomore
Aaron Ewing had four ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior
Jack Sabo added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior
Gabe Wallman had seven saves and five ground balls.
New England had 31 turnovers and were limited to just 18 shots, including only 12 on goal.
The Green Terror led 3-1 after the first quarter after totaling 16 first-quarter shots with 10 on goal. They took 14 shots in the second quarter with 11 on goal, but led by only two at halftime, 5-3, thanks to Nate Finn who had 16 of his 25 saves for the Pilgrims in the first 30 minutes.
McDaniel outscored New England 6-2 in the second half, out-shooting the visitors, 26-7. Skelly had a hand in three of the six scores with two goals and one assist, netting the game-winner just 50 seconds into the third quarter. Shortly after, first-year
Brandon Mejia scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Skelly to put the Green Terror in front, 7-3 with 11:19 remaining in the third quarter.
The Pilgrims (0-1) pulled within three on Andrew Pepka's second goal of the game with 12:16 left in the fourth before McDaniel scored the game's final three goals in the last four minutes to preserve the win.

New England responded with a goal from McGonigle at 2:49, but the Green Terror maintained control, ending the quarter with an 8-4 lead.
McDaniel head to Scranton, Pa. on Wednesday for its first meeting against Marywood since March 5, 2016, almost 10 years to the day exactly. Face-off is at 4 p.m.
