Five Players Post Double Figures in 80-65 Win Over Haverford

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior David Kearney led five players in double figure scoring to lead the McDaniel College men's basketball team to an 80-65 Centennial Conference victory over Haverford on Saturday inside the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (13-8, 3-6 CC) assured themselves of a winning record in the regular season for the second-straight season with their second consecutive conference win and fourth in-a-row against the Fords.

Kearney posted his third double double this season and second consecutive with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He also added three steals and two blocks. Sophomore Ashenafi Stuart had 15 points, junior Bruce Black had 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, senior Matt Kearney added 11 points and Ryan Shaffer had 10 points.

McDaniel trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half as the Fords scored 21 of their 42 first-half points on three-pointers, going 7-of-11 from behind the arc.

After cutting the Haveford lead to three at halftime, the Green Terror outscored the visitors 41-23 in the second half. A jumper by David Kearney with 15:44 remaining gave McDaniel a 47-46 lead, the team's first lead since it led 8-7 with 16:57 to play in the first half.

The game was tied for the final time at 55-55 with 9:32 left before the Green Terror outscored the visitors 25-10 the rest of the way. McDaniel held Haverford to just 4-of-12 shooting from the floor while making 9-of-11 free throws to help secure the win.

David Kearney had 12 points and seven rebounds in the second half while Stuart added 10 points.

For the game, the Green Terror 23 points off 11 Ford turnovers and scored 42 points in the paint.

McDaniel plays three of its final four games on the road, beginning on Wednesday when it travels to Johns Hopkins for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
