BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Moravian used a pair of five-goal runs in the first and second half en route to an 11-3 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Thursday at John Makuvek Field.
The Green Terror (2-2) fell for the first time in three road games this season, dropping the first meeting between the two teams since Feb. 27, 2010.
First-year
Cutter Stanton led the offense with two goals and picked up a team-high four ground balls. Junior
Cash Stanton had one goal, converting his only shot while adding one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Sophomore
Aaron Ewing also had four ground balls with one caused turnover while junior
Gabe Wallman made nine saves
The game remained scoreless through the first 10 minutes before the Greyhounds (2-1) scored two man-up tallies just 19 seconds apart on the same one-minute penalty against the Green Terror for an illegal body check.
McDaniel committed eight penalties for a total of seven minutes, but limited Moravian to just 2-of-9 on extra-man opportunities.
The two extra-man goals started a run of five-straight for the Greyhounds, led by Jack Minetti who had three goals and one assist. He completed a natural hat-trick with his third consecutive goal less than two minutes into the second quarter.
Moravian led 5-0 at halftime before the Green Terror opened the second half with back-to-back unassisted scores from Cash and Cutter.
However, the Greyhounds responded with another five consecutive goals to stretch their lead to eight, 10-2 with 4:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Cutter netted his second goal 51 seconds later before Nick Coffaro capped the scoring off an assist from Minetti with 1:40 to play. Minetti finished with seven points on five goals and two assists while Coffaro had four points with one goal and three assists.
Moravian held a 34-25 advantage in shots and won 12-of-18 face-offs. Liam Kelly had seven saves for the hosts while Rory Jenkins added one in the final two minutes.
McDaniel hosts New England College on Sunday in the first meeting between the two teams since March 13, 2010. Opening face-off is set for 2 p.m.
