BALTIMORE, Md. - First-year
Alex Salerni totaled four goals and three assists to lead the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team to a 13-10 road win over in-state rival Goucher on Saturday at Beldon Field.
The Green Terror (2-1) picked up their second win in as many road games this season, scoring 13 goals on 33 shots to improve to 8-0 on the road in the series.
Salerni finished with seven points in his third career start, the most by a McDaniel player since
Jason Fritz totaled eight with one goal and seven assists in a 19-7 win over Juniata at home on March 8, 2024.
Salerni netted his second career game-winning goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth.
Junior
Carter Youtz netted a hat-trick in his first game of the season with three goals, including a man-up tally off an assist from junior
Reagan Wilson with four minutes remaining after the Gophers cut the lead to one, 11-10.
Wilson and junior
Cash Stanton each finished with three points on two goals and one assist.
The Green Terror won a season-high 11 face-offs, including four in the opening quarter as they took a 3-1 lead.
After Goucher (0-2) scored the game's first goal over five minutes in, McDaniel responded with eight of the next 10, including four-straight, to take an 8-3 lead with 10:45 remaining in the third. Salerni had one goal and three assists while Stanton and Wilson each scored twice.
The Gophers managed to climb their way back by winning 11-of-16 face-offs in the second half, but the Green Terror defense never relinquished the lead, due in large part to junior
Gabe Wallman who totaled eight of his 12 saves in goal. He also added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
McDaniel plays the second of back-to-back road games on Thursday when it head to Moravian for a 4 p.m. face-off with the Greyhounds in the first meeting between the two teams since Feb. 27, 2010.
