BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior
Elaina Beckett scored a team-high 14 points in her first game since January 28, but the McDaniel College women's basketball team fell at No. 4 Johns Hopkins Wednesday at Goldfarb Gym, 50-43.
In a game that featured six ties and five lead changes, the Green Terror (17-5, 6-5 CC) fell for the first time in nine road games this season.
McDaniel was hampered by 23.3 percent shooting from the floor, including 17.4 percent from three-point range. The visitors had at least 60 field goal and 23 three-point attempts for the third consecutive game.
Beckett was the lone player in double figures for the Green Terror. She now has 1,353 points in 88 career games and is fifth on the school's all-time scoring list. Next on the list in fourth is Kathi Snyder who had 1,375 points in 99 games from 1995-99.
Junior
Teya McConnaha saw her streak of double doubles come to an end at seven as she just missed her eighth consecutive, finishing with nine points and 13 rebounds. It was also her first game in the last 10 that she did not score in double figures.
Sophomore
Lauren Cavoli , who attempted at least 16 field goals for the third consecutive game, had eight points while junior
Raegan Lenz had five points, six rebounds, and three assists. First-year
Riley Waite had five points and three rebounds and sophomore
Kendra Mason had a season-high six rebounds.
Johns Hopkins led 12-7 after the first quarter and stretched it to as many as 11 with 6:12 remaining in the second before the Green Terror closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 25-24 halftime lead.
Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter and McDaniel maintained its one-point lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.
However, the Blue Jays (21-0, 12-0 CC) outscored the visitors 15-7 in a decisive fourth that saw the Green Terror makes just 3-of-17 shot attempts compared to 7-of-13 for Johns Hopkins.
McDaniel had 18 second-chance points and a 45-42 edge in rebounding, but the Blue Jays scored 32 of their 50 points in the paint.
The Green Terror return home to face Bryn Mawr on Saturday on Senior Day. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will honor its three seniors in Beckett,
