First Half Highlights Fifth Consecutive Win for McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by 58 points and 64 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, the McDaniel College women's basketball team posted an 89-52 win over Salisbury Wednesday on Rebecca L. Martin Court.

The Green Terror (12-1), who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, posted their fifth-straight win and improved to 7-1 at home this season. They also picked up their fifth win by 35 points or more.

McDaniel totaled 14 three-pointers, one shy of the school record set twice on Dec. 8, 2018 at Franklin & Marshall and Jan. 27, 2018 versus Bryn Mawr.

With 58 first-half points, including 29 in both the first and second quarters, the Green Terror scored the most points in a half in the quarter era which began with the 2016-17 season. The previous high was 49 points (23-26) set in an 81-41 win over Goucher on at home on Dec. 10, 2022.

Sophomore Lauren Cavoli led five players in double figures with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 6-of-8 from three-point range. She also had a game-high five assists.

Cavoli scored 13 of her points in the first half with 12 coming on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc as McDaniel led by as many as 39 and took a 58-22 halftime lead.

The Green Terror went 21-for-33 from the floor in the first half for 63.6 percent while making 9-of-13 three-pointers for 69.2 percent.

Senior Elaina Beckett finished with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals as she moved past Kristy Costa '06 into 11th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,280 points. Steph Perez '15 is in 10th place with 1,290 points while Becky Martin '80 is ninth with 1,299 and Barb Wolf '90 is eighth with 1,300.

Junior Raegan Lenz totaled her second double double this season and the fourth of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also added three blocks and now has 50 this season, becoming just the third player in program history to total at least 50 blocks in a season more than once joining Assistant Vice President of Constituent Engagement Heidi Reigel '97 (three times) and Ashley Lyles '10 (twice).

Lenz now has 142 career blocks, ranking her third in program history behind Reigel (271) and Jill Ibex '01 (164).

Junior Teya McConnaha had 11 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Kendra Mason had 11 points, including nine on three three-pointers as she was 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

First-year Peyton Cramer had six points and four rebounds, both career highs, while senior Jordan McLean had five points and a season-high four assists.

McDaniel led 78-34 after the third quarter, shooting 63.6 from the floor (28-for-44), including 70.6 percent from behind the arc (12-for-17).

Having concluded their non-conference schedule for the season with a mark of 11-0, the Green Terror will now turn their attention to their final 12 regular season games in the Centennial Conference. The team begins on Saturday when it hosts Franklin & Marshall for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
