Beckett’s 24 Points Leads McDaniel to 79-45 Win Over F&M

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Elaina Beckett scored a game-high 24 points to lead the McDaniel College women's basketball team to a 79-45 home win over conference rival Franklin & Marshall on Saturday from the Gill Center.

Beckett entered the contest as the leading scorer in the Centennial Conference, averaging 21.5 points per game. Her 24-point effort was her eighth game of the season scoring 20-plus points for the Green Terror (13-1, 2-1).

The 34-point victory gave McDaniel its sixth win of the season by more than 30 points; the team's average margin of victory during its current six-game win streak is now up to 26.2 points.

The Green Terror opened an 11-point lead after one quarter on a Beckett layup with three seconds remaining in the opening period. The Diplomats (9-5, 2-2) fought back with a 14-point second quarter, but three-pointers from Beckett and sophomore Lauren Cavoli kept the visitors at bay and made the score 38-24 at halftime.

McDaniel connected on three more three-pointers in the third period, highlighted by two makes from Beckett and one from first year Peyton Cramer to beat the third quarter buzzer, growing the Green Terror lead to 26 at the end of three.

23 fourth quarter points cemented the conference win for the Green Terror. First year Riley Stigler and sophomore Kate Roberts each hit three-pointers in the final minute of the contest, contributing to a 19-point outing from the McDaniel reserves.

Cavoli and junior Raegan Lenz finished tied for second on the team with 13 points each while junior Teya McConnaha also finished in double figures with 10 points. Cavoli also notched a career-high with eight assists while Lenz chipped in with six. The Green Terror took advantage of 14 Diplomat turnovers to convert them into 20 points, while also scoring 38 points in the paint and grabbing 35 rebounds.

The Green Terror will take their six-game win streak on the road to Carlisle, Pa. on Wednesday in a battle with conference foe Dickinson. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
