LANCASTER, Pa. – Junior
Teya McConnaha recorded her fifth-straight double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds in a 54-44 road win for the McDaniel College women's basketball team over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
McConnaha posted 20-plus points for the second straight game for the Green Terror (16-3, 5-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak to remain undefeated on the road at 7-0.
The Diplomats (11-9, 4-6) took an early 8-6 lead in the first quarter but late baskets from McConnaha and junior
Carli Vogel put McDaniel ahead at the end of one, 12-11.
The second quarter saw two ties and two early lead changes before the Green Terror erased a 16-15 deficit with an 11-0 run over the final five minutes of the frame. Junior
Raegan Lenz scored six of the team's 11 points during the run; late free throws from the Diplomats cut the lead to 26-18 at halftime.
McDaniel opened the third quarter with six straight points to grow the lead to 14. A three-pointer from sophomore
Kendra Mason made the score 38-25 with 4:42 left in the period, but two late baskets from F&M cut the lead to nine by quarter's end, 46-37.
A 7-2 Diplomat run to begin the fourth quarter shrunk the Green Terror lead to four with 4:11 remaining, but a three-pointer from sophomore
Lauren Cavoli with 1:23 left pushed the lead back up to seven. McConnaha and senior
Jordan McLean converted on late scoring chances for the game's final 10-point margin.
McConnaha led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, the only player to finish in double figures for the Green Terror. Lenz chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds while Cavoli connected on 2-of-5 three pointers for eight points. Vogel had five points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
The Green Terror grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds in the win while holding the Diplomats to 23.1 percent shooting from the floor. McDaniel scored 15 points off second chance opportunities and controlled the paint with 26 points to F&M's 16.
McDaniel will return to the Gill Center on Wednesday to face Washington College in a rematch of last season's Centennial Conference Tournament opener. Tip-off is slated for 6 pm.
