WESTMINSTER, Md. – Johns Hopkins used 50 second-half points to defeat the McDaniel College men's basketball team 83-43 on Wednesday night from the Gill Center.
The Green Terror (11-5, 1-3) fought to an early 4-4 tie following free throws from sophomore
Ashenafi Stuart. A three-pointer from senior
David Kearney cut the deficit to 15-11 with 10:17 to play in the first half, and a Stuart three at the 7:39 mark made the score 17-14 in favor of the Blue Jays (12-4, 3-1). Hopkins rattled off an 11-0 run and ended the first half with a 33-19 lead after a buzzer beating layup from junior
Bruce Black.
Hopkins began the second half with a 10-0 run, growing the lead to 43-19. The visitors followed a layup from first year
Anthony Hall with another 9-0 run to pull away. A Blue Jay three-pointer with just over a minute remaining gave the visitors their largest lead as Johns Hopkins closed the door in the closing moments.
Senior
Matt Kearney posted a perfect shooting performance, scoring a team-high seven points on 3-for-3 from the field. Sophomore
Dallas George recorded two steals and added three rebounds. Sophomore
Kaydin Ford converted all four free throw attempts and contributed six points. First Year
Rece Bowser added five points, including a three-pointer, and finished with one rebound.
Johns Hopkins capitalized on turnovers, scoring 25 points off McDaniel's 22 giveaways, and controlled the paint with 56 points.
The Green Terror will travel to Collegeville, Pa. on Saturday to square off against conference rival Ursinus. Tip-off is set form 1 pm.
