Roth Earns Third Win With Three Saves in Third Shutout

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Junior Tate Roth made three saves to pick up his third win as the McDaniel College men's soccer team posted its third shutout with a 2-0 road win over Wilson Wednesday.

The Green Terror (3-0) are off to a 3-0 start for the second time in the last four seasons. They have yet to allow a goal in 270 minutes this season, outscoring its opponents, 6-0.

Senior Carver Neary continued his hot start, extending his point streak to three games as he scored both goals to raise his season point total to eight with three goals and two assists.

Senior Noah Rodriguez picked up his first two points of the season with assists on both goals while first-year Kristerson Mitchell notched his first career point with a second assist on Neary's game-winning goal in the 53rd minute.

After a scoreless first half in which McDaniel out-shot the Phoenix 6-2, the visitors broke the tie on their third scoring chance just eight minutes into the second half on their second of back-to-back corner kicks. Rodriguez sent the ball into the box from the corner where Mitchell found Neary for the game-winner and primary assist.

The second goal was a carbon copy of the first exactly 16 minutes later in the 69th minute as Rodriguez lofted another corner in front where Neary struck for his second goal of the game and first career multi-goal game in 34 appearances.

With three goals in three games, Neary has already set a new career high in both goals and points.

With three saves, Roth maintained his clean sheet this season and now has seven saves for the season along with two shutouts. He shared the third with sophomore Joseph Peloquin.

In 22 starts, Roth now has a 0.69 goals-against average, an .864 saves percentage, 13 wins and 13 shutouts.

McDaniel returns to action with the second of back-to-back road contests in the Keystone state when it heads to Reading, Pa. to take on Albright next Wednesday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
