TOWSON, Md. – The McDaniel College volleyball team swept a tri-match with host Goucher and Trinity Washington on Saturday, taking both matches in three-set sweeps.
The Green Terror (7-6) improve to 21-4 all-time against the Gophers (5-9) and remain unbeaten against the Tigers (1-8) in the first of two matchups this year.
McDaniel 3, Goucher 0
Both teams traded points early in the opening set. With the score tied 9-9, McDaniel rattled off five straight points to take control. Goucher cut the deficit to two following a service error but McDaniel scored eight of the final 10 points to win 25-17, with kills from senior

The Green Terror jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the second, but the Gophers fought back to eventually take a 15-13 lead midway through the set. Sophomore
Cassy Poteet registered two straight service aces to put McDaniel ahead 17-15, but Goucher stayed close throughout and tied the set late 23-23. Kills from Young and Buttons scored the winning points for the Green Terror, taking the set 25-23.
Goucher started the third set with a quick 4-0 burst, but McDaniel worked back into the contest and eventually drew even with the hosts. With the visitors ahead 23-21 late, Young collected a kill and first year
Mariya Carson caused an attack error to give the Green Terror another close win, 25-21, to sweep the match.
Bowley led the team with 10 kills while Young and Buttons tied for second with nine each. Senior
Samantha Fadel collected a team-high 14 digs while sophomore
Kaylee Comstock registered 16 assists.
McDaniel 3, Trinity Washington 0
The Tigers took command early in the opener, starting on a 5-1 run. The Green Terror responded by scoring six of the next seven points, but Trinity Washington stayed within striking distance. With the score tied 11-11, McDaniel scored 14 of the next 16 points to pull away and win 25-13.
The second set started with another early tie until the Green Terror again pulled away with a significant run. McDaniel scored 12 of 13 points midway through the set, putting the Tigers away with a 25-9 win. Set three played out in similar fashion, as McDaniel broke an early tie to win 25-8 and claim the match in another sweep.
Three players tied for the team lead in kills – Buttons, senior
Emily Osborne and junior
Renita Bankole-Gibson all finished with six kills. Poteet collected a team-best 14 assists while junior
Reese Beck led the way defensively with six digs.
The Green Terror return to the Gill Center on Thursday to face St. Mary's (MD) at 6 pm.
