Two Third-Quarter Goals Push Misericordia Past Field Hockey

DALLAS, Pa. - Two goals scored within a two-minute period in the third quarter propelled Misericordia to a 2-0 win over the McDaniel College field hockey team on Friday.

The Green Terror (4-4) dropped the first-ever meeting between the two programs located 134 miles from each other.

The Cougars took three shots in the opening quarter, two of which were blocked by Green Terror defenders. Junior Kelsey Jennings took the team's first shot at the start of the second quarter, resulting in a save for the Cougars.

Following a penalty corner, sophomore Charley Noah attempted her first shot of the contest at the 20-minute mark which was blocked. Neither team could generate much offense for the remainder of the half, taking a scoreless tie into the break.

Misericordia (7-2) opened the second half with four penalty corners and three shots in the first five minutes of play. Following a penalty corner just beyond the 37-minute mark, Misericordia broke the scoreless tie with a goal from Ava Cirigliano to take a 1-0 lead.

After a McDaniel foul, the Cougars scored again on a penalty stroke to double the lead just under two minutes later.

The Cougars started the fourth quarter with another penalty stroke, but the shot missed the mark after a save from junior Lora Scarangello. Noah and sophomore Summer Gregory took successive shots that were both blocked late in the quarter, and a shot by Jennings with six minutes left in the match was saved to cement the victory for Misericordia.

Jennings and Noah each took two shots in the contest with Jennings taking both on goal. Gregory and first-year Caydence Stone also registered shots in the loss. Scarangello played all 60 minutes and collected two saves in the cage.

The Green Terror return home on Tuesday to face No. 16 Franklin & Marshall in the team's Centennial Conference opener beginning at 6 p.m.
