WESTMINSTER, Md. - Three first-half goals carried No. 25 Johns Hopkins to a 4-0 victory over the McDaniel College women's soccer team on Wednesday at the Soccer Complex.
The Green Terror (4-3-1, 1-1-0 CC) dropped their first conference contest of the season and second against a nationally-ranked opponent.
The Blue Jays recorded the game's first five shots, including one on goal that was saved by first-year
Sierra Ruehl, before finding the back of the next in the 14th minute when Ella Macko scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Kei Kitamura.
McDaniel recorded its first shot in the 22nd minute when first-year
Chloe Workman headed one on net off a free kick that was saved by Ella Kruntchev.
The visitors added two more goals just six minutes apart in the 28th and 34th minute to take a 3-0 halftime lead.
Ruehl, who made her first career start in goal, finished with three first-half saves before giving way to sophomore
Mack Langlo.
Johns Hopkins (5-3-1, 1-1-0 CC) capped the scoring in the 66th minute with Lena Olbrys netted her second goal on a loose ball in the goal box. After a low cross though the box by Megha Salvi couldn't be corralled by Langlo, Olbrys drove the ball into the back of the next to provide the final margin.
