WESTMINSTER, Md. - First-year
Alaina Miller scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 72nd minute to lead the McDaniel College women's soccer team to a 1-0 road win at Bryn Mawr Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
The Green Terror (4-2-1, 1-0-0 CC) remained unbeaten in four road games this season, outscoring its opponents, 10-2. McDaniel also extended its win streak against the Owls to 16 games.
After a close fought first half in which the visitors held a 4-2 edge in shots and a 2-1 margin in corner kicks, the score remained tied at 0-0. However, the Green Terror turned up the pressure in the second half, holding an 8-0 advantage in shots and a 4-1 cushion in corner kicks.
Miller broke the scoreless draw on McDaniel's sixth shot of the second half following a corner kick by sophomore
Lauren Green.
Holding a one-goal lead, the Green Terror did not allow a shot or a corner kick over the final 18 minutes en route to their second-straight win.
Maeve Slemko totaled five of her eight saves in the second half to keep the Owls (3-4-1, 0-1-0 CC) within striking distance.
McDaniel finished with a 12-2 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 margin in shots on goal. It marked the third game this season that the Green Terror held their opponent to just one shot on goal.
Sophomore
Mack Langlo registered the one save for the visitors, stopping a first-half Bryn Mawr shot. First-year
Sierra Ruehl played the second 45 minutes, but was not required to make a save.
Witht the win, McDaniel improved to 8-0-1 in its last nine Centennial Conference openers since 2015.
The Green Terror return home to face their second nationally-ranked opponent in the last two games at the Soccer Complex when they host No. 24 Johns Hopkins. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
